Britain celebrated the Queen's 60th year on the throne in a glorious pageantry that only monarchy can provide.
Aside from the ceremonial preparations since January this year, the event is celebrated with some touches of ancient rituals and splendid traditions.

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh
This is only the third jubilee celebrated in Britain because only three British monarchs in history had reached the 60th anniversary on the throne -- King George III, Queen Victoria and now Queen Elizabeth II. The current British monarch ascended the British throne in 1952 on the death of her father, King George VI.
There were street parties, picnics, public visits and concerts celebrated all through out the Realms, especially in Britain, to mark this spectacular celebration.
Last January 5, 2012, the Queen and other royal family members set sail down the Thames on a glorious jubilee river pageant with a colorful royal barge decorations.
There were thousand spectators gathered around the river to watch this once-in-a-lifetime pageantry. The 1,000 strong-flotilla is said to be the most spectacular nautical event in London in 350 years. The London Philharmonic Orchestra played "Singing in the Rain" as they travel down the river.

The royal family travelled separately in three barges. The first barge "the spirit of chartwell" carried the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry.
The other sons of the Queens, the Duke of York and the Earl of Wessex boarded another vessel called Havengore, this vessel also carried the Countess of Wessex, Lady Louise, Viscount Severn, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.
The only daughter of the Queen, the Princess Royal and her husband boarded another boat called Trinity House. Unlike other female royal members who participated in the flotilla who donned fashionable dresses, the Princess Royal was in her naval uniform. More Royal Fashion HERE
There was a planned flypast of the Royal Air Force at Thames River but due to bad weather, the RAF presentation on air was cancelled.
